Harald Fritzsch (1943-2022) was a German theoretical physicist known for work on quarks, color charge, and quantum chromodynamics.
Quarks and color
Fritzsch, with Murray Gell-Mann and Heinrich Leutwyler, helped formulate quantum chromodynamics as the gauge theory of the strong interaction. The theory describes quarks and gluons using color charge and explains why isolated quarks are not observed under ordinary conditions.
His work belongs to the theoretical history behind quarks and gluons.
