Known for Bose-Einstein statistics; bosons

Satyendra Nath Bose (1894-1974) was an Indian physicist whose work on the statistics of light quanta led to Bose-Einstein statistics. Particles obeying these statistics are called bosons.

Bose-Einstein statistics

Bose derived Planck's black-body radiation law using a new counting method for indistinguishable light quanta. Albert Einstein recognized the importance of the work and extended it to massive particles.

The resulting statistics describe systems in which many particles can occupy the same quantum state, such as photons, coherent light, and Bose-Einstein condensates.
