Johannes Rydberg (1854-1919) was a Swedish physicist known for the Rydberg formula, which describes regularities in atomic spectral lines.
Atomic spectra
Rydberg generalized patterns in spectra across different elements. The Rydberg constant later became a key quantity in the quantum theory of atomic energy levels, especially for hydrogen-like systems.
His work helped prepare the ground for the Bohr model and for later quantum-mechanical treatments of atoms.
