Pauli exclusion principle is a Book II topic in the Quantum Collection. The Pauli exclusion principle states that identical fermions cannot occupy the same quantum state.[1] It explains the shell structure of atoms and many properties of matter.[2] The exclusion principle is one of the main reasons matter has structure. It explains why electrons fill atomic shells instead of collapsing into the lowest orbital, why solids resist compression, and why degenerate matter can support white dwarfs and neutron stars. It is the many-particle expression of fermionic exchange symmetry and the spin-statistics connection.
