quark is a Book II topic in the Quantum Collection. A quark is a fundamental particle that combines with other quarks to form composite particles such as protons and neutrons. Quarks are among the basic building blocks of matter. Quarks carry color charge and interact through the strong force described by quantum chromodynamics. They are not observed as isolated particles under ordinary conditions, but appear inside hadrons such as protons, neutrons, mesons, and more exotic composite states. Quark flavor, spin, color, and confinement connect particle classification with nuclear matter and high-energy collisions.
Description
Quarks interact through the strong interaction and are always found bound together in larger particles. They combine in groups to form hadrons, such as protons and neutrons, which make up atomic nuclei.
